Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf e.V. (FZD)

FZD is a non-profit scientific organisation funded by German Federal and Saxonian Authorities and a member institute of the ”Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft G. W. Leibniz”. The application-oriented basic research is focused on three major research topics: advanced materials research, cancer research, and nuclear safety research. Around 650 people are employed at FZD. FZD consists of a number of 6 institutes, of which the Institute of Safety Research is contributing to the PERFORM 60 project. The institute conducts application-oriented basic research for the protection of human being and environment from technical risks and for improvement in the sustainability of technical processes.

PERFORM 60 will benefit of FZD’s experience in the field of microstructural characterization of neutron-irradiated steels, especially based on the experimental technique of small-angle neutron scattering, in the field of rate theory modelling of the evolution of irradiation-induced defects, and in the field of fracture mechanical testing and modelling. FZD will contribute to SP-1, SP-2 and SP-3 of PERFORM 60 mainly by further development of rate theory models for the long term description of irradiation damage, by the application of advanced mechanical testing methods to irradiated austenitic steel, and by the development and maintenance of the PERFORM 60 data base.

FZD will mobilize necessary resources for PERFORM 60 such as additional personnel costs, computers, means for shipment and handling of radioactive material, and measuring equipment
